This race was created in a moment when triathlon was booming worldwide. More and more races were showing up like mushrooms after the rain but there was a group of people trying to maintain the sport pure, true and full of positive principles. It was thanks to those people that PATAGONMAN and other races of the XTri World Tour were born.

PATAGONMAN was created with the support of Norseman “the ultimate triathlon on the planet”. Norseman started in 2003 and grew fast enough to be considered today one of the most important triathlon on Earth and ended up developing a whole new category of races, the Xtri or Extreme Triathlon Races. In order to secure a great standard for this races Norseman, Swissman and Celtman created the Xtri World Tour of which PATAGONMAN is proud to be part of as a 2018 prospect race.

The Beginning of a Dream

At their early thirties a group of three Chilean triathletes passionate about triathlon and nature, were constantly debating between two of their greatest loves: practicing triathlon and traveling the world to see natural wonders. It was then that they discovered Aysén, the jewel of Patagonia. Aysén is an isolated region, a unique place on earth… it’s wild and extreme as itself and it’s arguably one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

Here’s how Ignacio Valdivieso (one of the founders) described his idea:

“I want to create something unique, something that can only be done by real triathletes and that can only be done here, in one of the wildest scenarios of the world. Let the participants experience the journey through landscapes with no parallel, let them be amazed by nature, let them see wildlife and wilderness as they power themselves through the country of glaciers and mountains, through the land of pumas and condors… in search of their physical boundary, that boundary that can only be surpassed when in perfect harmony of mind, body and soul.”

The PATAGONMAN is a point to point race starting in the western part of Aysén, one of the most southern regions of Chile, then leading across the country and finishing in the eastern part of Chile, close to the border with Argentina. The course starts at the scenic Aysén Fjord, close to Puerto Chacabuco and finishes at the impressive General Carrera Lake. The course across Patagonia is both breathtakingly beautiful and extremely challenging.

The Xtri World Tour will include incredible extreme triathlons  in some of the most spectacular places in the world.  More information will be available on the website:
