Acerca de mí

I´m a disciplined woman who loves challenges, passionate about outdoor sports. I love to drive my bicycle and explore new scenery's.
By profession, I'm an industrial engineer and I work with my husband in the insurance business, we have a broker.
I have three kids; we love to spend time together and support me in each new challenge.
I love to read, go to the cinema and spend time with my family and friends.

I found out about Patagonman through a post by Raynard Picard on Instagram. I loved it from the very first moment I saw.
Next step, I went into the event page and when I read what it was about, I envisioned myself in that magical place enjoying everything. The only thing I thought about was "I want to ring that bell for mt 50th birthday".
Another thing that motivated me to sign up was that my husband could be part of the event support. Throughout the event, he could accompany me and was in charge of supplying me, especially during the bike segment and transitions.
I made a call with Marcia and Karla, Patagonman finishers in 2023, who help us with her recommendations. They were so nice and put me with another competitors in touch

Cómo descubrí Patagonman

Mi experiencia en Patagonman

It was the most challenging, inspiring and beautiful event I've ever done.
Everything started with a warm and very humane welcome from the inhabitants of Chilean Patagonia and the event staff.
The emotion and at the same time the uncertainty of boarding the ferry at dawn to swim in 12 degree Celsius waters for the first time and jumping into a dark, unknown and at the same time beautiful sea surrounded by those fjords. Swimming in fresh water against the current and waves, managing to swim the full distance and coming out satisfied with completing the first stage.
After the transition, I changed into warm clothes to regain heat and avoid losing more calories. I recovered with a hot soup and at the same time felt very strong.
The bike ride was beautiful, surrounded by the Andes at all times. The mountains looked stunning with snow at the peaks and lush nature on their slopes, featuring various shades of green, flowers, and the river. The bike ride was demanding, with significant altitude gain and strong headwinds that made controlling the bike challenging. The final section, which was supposed to be a downhill ride, wasn't easy due the strong head winds. We didn't stop pedaling at any moment. I made sure to stay hydrated and eat well to tackle the final stretch, the marathon.
The last segment was quite a challenge for me due to an Achilles tendon injury I've had for several years which always flares up during runs, and a Knee operation whose outcome was uncertain. From training I had mentally prepared myself to walk and trot but enjoy it, and that's exactly what I did. I trained that way, so I didn't stress about going slower. In reality, many people do it that way. it's a trail with a lot of uphill climbs, especially in the first 20 km. At km 30, you meet your support team, and they can accompany you to the finish line. In my case, we tried to do it, but my husband's pace was slower that mine, and he wasn't wearing suitable running clothes. Halfway through, he got on a truck that took him to the finish line, and I continued alone.
I had a major setback: I ran out of battery, and from km 8 onwards, I had no idea what km I was at. So, my mental strength was crucial in keeping me calm. In the end, I weighed my options when I separated from my husband, and I had no idea how much farther I had to go. I only knew the finish line was close. The moment, I saw the bell in the distance, my emotions were overwhelming. I had done it! I had reached the bell I had dreamed about for months, and I had visualized myself ringing it with all my might.
And that's exactly what I did. To this day, the satisfaction I feel from completing this challenge is unparalleled. Overcoming my fears, the external voices, and taking that leap of faith transformed me completely.

Un mensaje para futuros competidores

Don't hesitate and Jump! The experience you'll have will be very enriching, both as athletes and individuals. The challenge will be great and satisfying.
Don't get overconfident and train, but most importantly, do it while enjoying the scenery. Time doesn't matter, and it's not an event to improve personal records, it's an event for spiritual growth.
