This article we will cover PATAGONMAN XTRI AND ITS DIFFERENCES WITH NORMAL TRIATHLON.
As you can imagine this race has many differences with a normal triathlon and here I’ll try to point out some of the most important ones:
- Patagonman is much more difficult than normal triathlons. The swim is in the dark, water is cold, cycling is really tough and can be very windy, the running leg has a lot of elevation and has no paved roads where to run instead is mostly trail running and rubble roads, and the weather conditions are absolutely unpredictable.
- The race is point-to-point so you must stay in one town and hotel the pre-race days (that’s Puerto Aysen or Puerto Chacabuco) and in another location and hotel from the day of the race onwards (that’s Coyhaique).
- You are required to show up with a support person who needs to have a rental car to move around during race day. This support is vital to your success as so it is the race planning you two must prepare together, as you have to rely on yourself and your support for assistance during the race.
- You can run the last 12Ks of the run with your support person whoever this is not mandatory.
- And finally, there is mandatory equipment in order to be allowed to race and the cutoffs and rules are different to normal triathlon but we will have time for that in other videos like this one.
Stay safe and keep training.
